Who is H.A.S.A.
The Housekeepers Association of Southern Africa was founded in 1994 by industry.
We have successfully achieved our aims and objectives and continue to do so, these are:
For the betterment and recognition of Housekeepers in Southern Africa
To promote professionalism, education and training
To strive towards world class standards
To promote co-operation and true fellowship amongst housekeepers
H.A.S.A has successfully run five highly professional and educational conferences, and the sixth one is currently being planned for 2007. Dates are July 29th, 30th and 31st.
Together with SATOUR, H.A.S.A. was instrumental in creating and delivering the Housekeeper of the Year award. H.A.S.A. now continues to recognize excellence at its conference held every two years.
We are supported by all the major groups, many smaller hotels groups, some independent hotels as well as many industry suppliers.
As an association we have earned credibility for the professional manner in which Housekeeping has been uplifted.
Over the last 20 years, the Housekeeping industry has lost trained, professional housekeepers who have been replaced by unqualified personnel. The portfolio of the Housekeeper has grown and changed dramatically over the last two decades. We are faced with a shortage of skills, the lack of professionally trained Housekeepers will in not the too distant future reach crisis phase.
Today it is vital that we have professionally trained Housekeepers to manage a section of the Rooms Division Department which brings in the largest departmental profit and a department which typically has the largest staff compliment.
Our objective is to assist the Housekeeping industry in training, educating and developing the Housekeepers of the future. We hope that this will solve the current shortage of professional Housekeepers in South Africa and across our borders.
Our goals for this initiative
Responsible allocation of development funding
Build housekeepers at supervisory level in our industry
Add value for our member housekeepers and the industry at large
Gain recognition for the need of development of supervisory skills in the Housekeeping profession
Address the skills shortage in the industry.
