H.A.S.A was founded in 1994. It has a constitution which stipulates that we are a non-racist, non-sexist and non-political association. Our association is an association incorporated under section 21 of the companies act; this means that we are a non-profit organisation. Our primary objectives are to assist in training, educating and developing Housekeepers for the hospitality industry.
Furthermore, we acknowledge the critical shortage of Housekeepers in South Africa, and are currently working on ideas of how we can assist the industry.
The Housekeepers meet every 6 weeks. At every function, a guest speaker is invited to discuss a topic relating to the world of Housekeeping. This keeps members up to date with the latest products, trends, technologies, laws and regulations. A newsletter is also produced at least six times a year, this keeps us in touch with members who work in outlying areas and cannot attend functions regularly.
We also hold a three-day convention bi-annually. Apart from being informative and a fantastic learning opportunity, it is a great place to network with other Housekeepers from other provinces and countries, as well as suppliers to the industry.

Apart from the support from BidServ, the association is also supported by the major hotel groups, suppliers, individual hotels, lodges, clubs and smaller industries, who are all now members of H.A.S.A. We would not have been successful without their continued support. By becoming a member, you are not only supporting the professional growth of your own Housekeeper, you are helping us work towards resolving a shortage of professional Housekeepers within the industry as a whole.
